Project Description: Southern Stainless participated in a six-month tender process for the Brisbane Riverwalk rebuild following the extensive flood damage caused in 2011. After Brisbane City Council awarded the head contract to John Holland, Southern Stainless was selected to deliver the stainless steel balustrade package — the largest subcontract within the overall project.
The Riverwalk spans approximately 900 metres and incorporates around 1,900 metres of stainless steel balustradeacross multiple sections of the structure. Designed for heavy public use and long-term exposure to riverside conditions, all balustrade components were fabricated from high quality 316 marine grade stainless steel, polished to a 600 grit satin finish, and fully electropolished after fabrication to maximise corrosion resistance and longevity.
The project included four distinct balustrade systems designed to suit different user environments and architectural requirements, including pedestrian, cycle, mesh, and glass balustrades.
